How to get your customers excited about how you’re changing your business… instead of causing a mass exodus.

Mountain snow thaws, turning into tumbling rivers.

Springtime blossoms grow, then turn into autumn leaves.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez get together…then break up…then reunite…then release moody, black & white break-up music videos.

What I’m trying to say, with my Bieber-infused, poetical metaphors, is that…

Change is inevitable.

Your business must change and evolve, too.

But your clients & customers have become accustomed to a certain way of doing biz with you.

When something changes, it can often feel like they’re about to grab the pitchforks and revolt.

Whyyyyyyy? I liked the old way!!!!!!!!

The change that you want to make could be a change in your pricing. A chance in how you structure your services. A change in how often you send out newsletters. A change in the topics you write about. A change in the way you process new workshop registrations, handle refunds, respond to emails…whatever.

If you’re feeling super-anxious about announcing the new world order to your business audience, here’s a template to play with…

[you can use this template to craft an email, a newsletter, a blog post, a video script, or talking points for a phone call or face-to-face convo with a particular client… whatever works for you!]

Hey [name],

A wise person once said, The only constantis change.

I agree. But I also believe that change shouldnt be random. It should be thoughtful and intentional. Put simply: change should make things better.

One aspect of my business that Id like to make better is [describe the thing].

For me? That particular [process / offering / system / policy] has been feeling clunky and outdated for a while kinda like Aunt Ferns knick-nacks and dusty china, cluttering up your attic.

So, starting on [date], Im dusting it off and creating something new & far more awesome. Heres the new plan:

[describe whatever the change is]

I hope youre as delighted about this change as I am. Im happy to answer any questions about this change via email. Fire away.

Heres to welcoming in the new & improved goodness,

[your name]

PS. Whats one aspect of YOUR life that could use a lilsprucing & improvement? Let Beyoncé inspire you to uppppppgrrrade it. 🙂

Obviously, you should add your own voice, personality (and musical references 😉 to this template. But no matter how you phrase it, here’s the key:

As long as YOU sound confident and excited about the change, then your customers will get excited, too.

If you sound apologetic, uncertain or shaky, then they’ll feel unsafe and start to freak out.

YOU set the tone. Keep it upbeat, energizing and fun.
