February Month in Review

I don’t know about you, but for me February completely blew by in a whirl of Nespresso, thousands of scripted words, and an Exorcist-style food poisoning incident.

Here is my February Month in Review, otherwise known as…

How I pulled off an online course launch, a script deadline, wrote a new TV pilot, traveled to Vancouver to LA to NYC and back to LA, completed a dozen client VIP days… and then got food poisoning. And still managed to sneak in some self care!

Let’s gooooooo.

What’s a month in review?

This is a reflection exercise I do every month to:

: Evaluate my monthly goals (what worked, what didn’t, etc.)

: Dig into what I’ve learned.

: Discover what I want to create more space for in my business (and life.)

: Celebrate!

I’m sharing this to a) be transparent and b) in case this inside scoop + reflection might be helpful to you.

Away we go!

February 2020 Month in Review

My February Goals:

: Finish first draft of new TV pilot script. I did it! Despite all the craziness of February, I finally got a story that’s been in my head for nearly five years onto the page. Is it great? Nope. Is it even good? I mean… kinda? But that’s what a first draft is supposed to be—super rough word vomit (kinda like these review emails, lol.)

: Do a mini-launch for OBSESSED. I absolutely adore my OBSESSED program (it’s my very favorite thing I’ve ever created), but with my increasingly intense schedule I’m not able to pull off bigger scale launches like I used to… nor do I even really want to. What I love about launching an offer isn’t making a bunch of money (though it’s nice to, you know, profit.) What I truly love is the chance to connect with new people, the opportunity to re-connect with my alumni, and overall just get to have a fun, buzzy conversation about a topic I care very much about: building obsession! Doing a launch is kinda like being the cover star on a weekly gossip magazine—you’re the headline news for a bit, and then you step back in the shadows to allow room for other folks to get the spotlight. 🙂 I had an enrollment goal and I beat it by about 15% – which is great! – but I was mostly happy about the opportunity this launch presented for connection.

: Expand my team. As I mentioned in January’s review, one of my goals this quarter is to bring more work in-house. I already had someone whom I’ve been wanting to hire, so it made things a bit easier because I could craft a role just for her. I’m very excited to onboard her in March, and have more expansion in my schedule!

: Work on my novel edits. I really wanted to carve space for this, but again last month – I did not. While time and energy were legitimately an issue, if I’m being honest, I could have made a bit of time to work on this. I’m still digging into why that is. Do I feel scared to make it a reality? Am I still struggling with guilt that yet another project takes me away from family & friends? There’s definitely something behind my procrastination that I’m currently exploring in therapy and my journal.

What did I learn last month?

: Self-care is so freaking important. I would not have made it through February without carving time for this. I exercise most days, which is amazing for my mental health. I don’t do hardcore workouts anymore, I mostly just jog, hike or walk and do yoga. I did try a dance class with a friend and it was so much fun! I used to dance quite a bit back in the day, but since moving to LA it’s been hard to find dance classes that aren’t filled with hyper-competitive professionals with choreography that, yeah, I can’t follow.

: The need to celebrate all of my steps vs. focus on what I didn’t do right. This is something I teach my students, and it’s something I’m really passionate about. I’m choosing to focus on all the great work I did this month—regardless of the outcome.

: Thank god for guilty pleasures. I love the term “guilty pleasure” (duh) because it communicates that spine-tingling feeling you get when indulging in something. During really stressful moments, or when I was laid up with food poisoning, I watched my favorite guilty pleasure—The Bachelor. The show itself is a complete dumpster fire, but my favorite part is gossiping with friends about the episode, listening to all the recap podcasts, and chatting anonymously in the fan forums. My obsession is intense… but it’s just the fun escape I need during a challenging month. 🌹

What do I want to create space for in March?

: The SO OBSESSED podcast – Season 2! Alex and I will finally be recording Season 2 this week. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, SO OBSESSED is our totally ridiculous podcast that we made just as a fun personal project to discuss all of our obsessions. It’s basically like secretly recording all the stuff we talk about anyway, and sharing it with the world.

: Planning! I have something fun I’ve been working behind-the-scenes that I won’t be announcing until Fall 2020 (I know, I know… no fair!) This particular thing needs a whole lotta planning, so I’m excited to create space this month for that. I had some opportunities come up already that would have taken up quite a bit of time in March, so I said “no” to those and now have several open days for planning & play!

: Pleasure binges! Continuing to focus on self-care. Attending my new dance class with one of my favorite friends, getting massages, stretching, long walks, good coffee, finding a new reality show ‘cause the The Bachelor will be on hiatus until The Bachelorette starts. 😉

Celebrate!

This month I’m celebrating:

: Making it through – haha!

: All of my amazing clients & students who I love soooo much.

: Finishing the first draft of a new TV pilot script!

: Getting back to dance class.

: Starting an erotic fiction book club with a few of my local friends (because… why not?) 🙂

I hope your month was amazing or, if it wasn’t, that you’re able to take a little reflection time to turn things around for March!
